Putin to offer State Duma to prolong powers of cbank chairwoman

MOSCOW, Mar 22 (PRIME) -- Russia’s President Vladimir Putin will nominate the central bank’s Chairwoman Elvira Nabiullina for another term, he said at a meeting with Nabiullina on Wednesday.

“I will submit your nomination for the next term as the chairwoman of the central bank of the Russian Federation to the State Duma,” Putin said, adding that he expects the central bank to “act as independently and as confidently.”

Nabiullina has been the chairwoman of the central bank since June 24, 2013. Before that she was an economic development minister.

Nabiullina said that the Russian financial sector has in general adapted to new economic conditions.
